The Nigeria music industry no doubt has attained a great height in recent times with the interplay of top-notch producers, artistes, and record labels. And joining the train is a new record label in town — Shafer Records.

Founded as a wholly independent music label on February 17, 2016, the outfit is a brainchild of a South African-based entrepreneur, Isaiah Oyibo (Shafer). Officially unveiled on October 12, 2016, the label is home to fast rising talented artistes like Theory (Samuel Oyibo), Luqi (Utibe Ndah Mac’kenzie), and Eluku (Lameed Temitayo Lukmon).

The talented acts brought together their diverse musical experiences, which have helped in laying a solid foundation for the label in the music industry. The first single released under the label was ‘Changes’ by Theory, which is enjoying massive promotion on South African and Nigerian airwaves. Meanwhile, ‘Too Much Love’, produced by Lugi, is the first collective effort of all the acts signed to the label.

According to the CEO of the label, Isaiah Oyibo, the outfit hopes to produce top artistes, who would not only produce good music across Africa, but also influence the lifestyle of its esteemed audience and fans positively.

“We are here to give our fans nothing but good music, we preach one love, honesty and unity. With our firm believe and team spirit, we hope to be the number one record label in the world, bringing love and motivation to upcoming artistes out there and supporting the Nigeria music industry with our scouting of raw talents from the street. There are raw talents out there in the streets that can be turn into stars,” he said.

He further explained that Shafer in dictionary mean Shepherd/leader, who direct the sheep to a particular direction. Therefore, by bringing good motivational music to thrill the world with its leading skills, the label hopes to be the pace setter in the music industry.

Born July 1988 in Calabar, Cross River State, Oyibo, a motivational personality, started his career at House of Tara (HOT) makeup school in Ikeja, Lagos, where he studied professional beauty makeup.

According to him, he decided to pursue his dream of becoming an icon in the world like his famous uncle, Moses Eagle James — and Olympian and former world boxing champion.

The three artistes signed to the label are: Theory, a budding R&B, Hip-hop act; Eluku, a dreadlocked hip-hop/rap phenomenon, and the double dose Lugi, who is a singer/producer. He is an Afropop and reggae singer with distinct vocals.
